Thanks for pointing this out. On my particular fare, it does not look like a stopover is permitted at all on the outbound.

The relevant section of my fare rules:
08.STOPOVERS
1 FREE STOPOVER PERMITTED ON THE PRICING UNIT IN HKG INBOUND. AND -
UNLIMITED STOPOVERS PERMITTED ON THE PRICING UNIT AT USD 700.00 EACH
NONE IN HKG OUTBOUND.
