As an addendum, in my experience NYC has far more curbside space available for pickup and dropoff, even at peak hours, Meanwhile, many San Francisco neighborhoods have no curbside space (way too many parked cars) even off peak hours, and many streets are small enough that double-parking means blocking all traffic--making bus stops much more sacred in San Francisco.
