Normally, I wouldn't mind a nice walk of half an hour or so along the waterfront (especially since the Holday Inn seems to be nearly $30 cheaper/night), but I am concerned because I read that most tour boats leave at 8 AM, and I wouldn't want to miss them. Is it reasonable to take Uber, a Cab, or public transport to get to the reef at that hour (on a weekday) ?

The back part in the evening I could walk -- I am more concerned about making it in time for the cruises in the morning. I'm not sure how available cabs/uber might be in Cairns.
Also, where do most tour buses (say to Kuranda) or plane/helicopter flights start from ? A previous post mentioned the CBD, but I'm not sure where that is in Cairns. I may be on a bit of a tight schedule, so looking for hotels that will give me easy access to starting points.
Thanks !
