A $1.1m award would certainly provide sufficient incentive for some airports / authorities to take a look at their policies and be more responsible.

It's unfortunate that it takes severe injury to get the proper attention here.

Further: I wish this person would also sue the therapist. The "in 24h, you can get a letter" scammers mentioned above should be held to the same liability standard as the airport.
