You are correct, the majority of the A320s had 149 seats in the VX configuration (8 F, 12 Y+, 129 Y), while newer VX A320s with sharklets have 3 fewer Y seats due to more aft galley space. Also, I think the article is wrong about the seat pitch going down in Y, at least on the A320. Cutting the 55” pitch in F to 40” and replacing the hard bulkhead with soft bulkhead enabled installing the extra row of F and premium class.
