Well, I'm trying to balance my vegetarian ethics with the Delta system. People are vegetarians for very different reasons, and I don't judge people who aren't vegetarians by any means, but I'll explain my reasons. So, I'm a vegetarian for two reasons: resource questions of raising meat, and because I don't want animals to be killed for my personal benefit/enjoyment. This is a personal ethical and moral choice that I don't object to others not sharing, but when you're operating in a capitalist economy where Money/SkyMiles buys meat, it's tough to make these choices.
For example, I learned recently that all food on international legs is thrown away if not eaten. In the cases where I'm upgraded to D1 less than 24 hours before, I have been eating the meat on international legs. My view is that at
that point the biggest issue is that the animal was killed for nothing, and I'd rather see the animal be eaten than dumped in a land fill. (It's been really weird after 30 years as a vegetarian to eat meat. I do have to avoid beef in any event because it makes me sick, but I have a generally strong stomach so other meats/fish I've been able to digest).
I have been thinking given my ethical beliefs, that I basically
must preorder a AVML or VLML or VGML when I'm upgraded more than 24 hours in advance, primarily because I assure that the meat is not prepared for me, and I have an easy path to prevent it. So, what I'm really trying to figure out is what the best choice is in D1 between the three. I think you're totally right that none of the veggie meals in D1 are any good, but I'm trying to figure out what's most likely to be the least bad one for given routes. I may be the
only person who flies D1 who cares about this question. In fact, I speculate that the reason veggie meals are so bad in D1 is precisely because there are just so few people who are ordering them that Delta doesn't feel it's a market worth catering (literally!) to.
