Marriott/SPG also blows away Hilton. Hyatt arguably second best now, with the new HR Sukhumvit.
There are aspects of the St. Regis hard product I think have dated slightly and I'm not a huge fan of the styling, so personally I would appreciate a newer luxury property within Marriott and RC seems the most likely contender. Booking through a STARS agent you're really not missing much by choosing an RC anyway, the St. Regis Bangkok elite benefits are pretty light in my opinion too. So many new luxury hotels have come online recently/are coming online shortly in Bangkok that I'm fairly sure the extra capacity is not needed though (Park Hyatt, Waldorf Astoria, Rosewood, Four Seasons, Orient Express, etc.).
