Alam Jiwa hotel near Ubud

This magical hotel was recommended to me by dianne47. Alam Jiwa is in a neighboring village to Ubud, a few minutes drive away. It is a fabulously charming enclave of separate buildings overlooking a gorgeous rice field and the glorious Mt. Agung. Some of the buildings have two rooms; some have three, with one room per floor and ingenious separate entrances to each floor.

The layout brings the guest into a little path next to an outdoor “lobby/dining area/gathering place. The pool is enclosed by a high wall by the lobby and is beautifully landscaped. The staff is wonderful, and will interact with you.

Choose a rice paddy view. (Only one room lacks such a view.) Top floors are $85 and have no A/C. The rooms below the top floor are $65 and have A/C. The hotel only has 10 rooms. I was moved from room to room as I extended my stay and had to take what was available. I actually preferred the two ground floor $65 rooms I had to the one upstairs $85 room. The view is roughly comparable, and I preferred the landscaping around the ground floor rooms. Each room has an outside veranda or balcony, a wonderful place to relax and read.

They take your breakfast order in the evening and prepare it at your specified time. Be sure to try the banana pancakes – actually a thin crepe with thinly sliced bananas within the crepe dough. Eat on your veranda.

You can order dinner from their restaurant Laka Leke down the street if you’re too tired to go out. The meal is delivered by motorbike and you “hear’ your meal coming. Go to the restaurant in daylight to enjoy the ponds and rice field view.

To get back and forth to town, take their free shuttle car. They will pick up and drop you off per your request.
