ANA vs United for someone living in Japan

I found a thread on this from about 11 years ago, but I suppose many things have changed since then. I've been a loyal customer to United for a bit (flying out of SFO), but I'll be moving to Japan later this year (and staying there for at least a couple years)

I expect my flying to be something like the following;
  • domestic (within Japan) 2-3 times a year
  • South Korea 2-3 times a year
  • back to SFO two times a year
  • Europe (CDG or ZRH) once a year
  • Southeast Asia once a year
I suppose that if I switch my loyalty to ANA, it might be more comfortable since I can choose my seat for domestic Japanese flights. Thus, I'm leaning towards switching to ANA..
On the other hand, since I'll be moving, I won't have a PQD requirement for United anymore.. I didn't do much flying last year though so I currently have no status with United.

I also have a lot of MR, which I can transfer to ANA..

Anything else I should consider?

Please help me decide!
