True I don't know who paid what, but, profiling the 5 of us in first, 2 of us seemed to fit the stereotype. The much older well dressed Asia lady speaking only Cantonese - and her son - didn't seem like the type that would be in the market for these super discounted fares. Nor did the very well dressed and business orientated man across from me.
(FWIW - all FC passengers but me got off in YVR.)
On my previous HKG-JFK flight this year, there were 3 of us on the discount fare. Again the remaining two just didn't seem the type. Non-English speaking, well dressed, older, Could they have been? sure. But just didn't seem the type.
On my outbound, a few weeks ago, there were only two of us in first. In talking to the other passenger, she confirmed she was not on the New Year fare.
The real point is the first class cabins and business class cabins have not been full on any of my flights.
