I used the Marriott mobile app to check-in and then request a suite upgrade with the chat messaging. No pushback and the upgrade was processed 48 hours before arrival.
At the front desk I was recognized as an ambassador and only had to show a photo ID. All elites get a brown paper bag with two bottles of water. I was offered the usual arrival choice of the $10 voucher or 1,000 points. No bellman to assist with luggage nor a valet parking attendant.
The parking garage is weird. You can't actually walk from the garage to the lobby without going outside, which means getting wet when it rains. The hotel has maybe two dozen reserved spots that say valet but I was told by the front desk they no longer have valet parking and guests can use those spots. There was no charge for parking, but you did have to hang a pass from the mirror.
The property is really tired. Supposedly, the first test renovated room is done so I imagine significant renovations will be happening for most of the next year. Outside of new TVs and maybe carpeting or the odd bit of furniture, it looks like it's been 10 or 12 years since the last renovation. Desk and other furniture scratched. The bathroom is ancient looking. The suite was extremely clean, but definitely not one of Marriott's showcase properties.
The concierge lounge is on the top floor, but is not keycard accessible over the weekend when it is closed. Staff in the lounge and front desk were very friendly. The lounge spread was pretty basic. No oatmeal for breakfast. Just bacon, eggs, potatoes, some fruit, bread, and yogurt. No bananas even. At night, there was a creamy pasta and mini-hamburgers, cheese cubes, and a limited salad bar. Later on they brought out cookies, cheesecake and chocolate cake.
