Unless you are at an outstation where the really is no alternative other than the inbound aircraft and that is not yet headed your way, you have to accept that: 1. Repairs sometimes do not take as long as predicted; 2. ATC delays evaporate; 3. Weather improves; 4. Substitute aircraft and crew are located.

If any or any combination of those occur, a posted delay can evaporate.
