Thanks, useful info. We will be lugging along a bunch of scuba gear (weighs a lot) so anything to get some extra checked baggage allowance would be welcome.

Too bad the miles can't be applied to one of their partners (and yes, will likely expire). Oh well, you win some, you lose some. Still worth the effort to sign up just for the extra 5K luggage.
