Baggage: what does “loaded on plane” really mean?

The app is showing my bags as loaded on the plane at 10.30 am this morning, and the inbound aircraft is only showing as arrived at 11.30am (and the gate numbers confirm that is our plane).

I presume this actually means that my bags were loaded into a cargo bin at 10.30, and that the app will not show when they are loaded onto the plane.

I always thought 'loaded on plane' was reassuring, but I've kind of lost my confidence in it!

[Apologies for the typo in the title - I can't change that of course.]

[and I should add that this is an international flight and a 77W.]
