I'm Madrid based, but half of my familiy lives in SCL and I go there very frequently. As a matter of fact I'm leaving for SCL next month, for the fantastic 'fiestas del dieciocho' (national day, turned into a week long festivities) and will stay there for a month after that, to recover.

I've talked to friends who have been to Iguazu- sounds like an easy trip out of EZE or GRU.
It is, but if you want to try something different, and have the time, an even better idea is to do GRU-Iguazu-EZE as a surface sector by bus. The bus is luxurious, has a fully reclining (flat) bed, includes meals, is cheap, fun, and beats flying (in my book); the Pampa may be boring for most, but I love it.

I hadn't considered Easter Island-- but that would be from SCL and would be attached to a different trip. I will have easy means to get to SCL or EZE on a future trip.

For this one, I'm looking at AA metal in and out- a nice and easy weekend. It's one of those Fly Free certs-- not a OneWorld award, so Easter Island would be out of pocked from SCL- and in that event, I could use other means to get to SCL first.
Understood. Ok, then, forget Easter Island, because it is an expensive destination when not on an award or a OWE.

So.... La Paz is kind of out..... Montevideo is out..... just leaves Asuncion and Santa Cruz. Nobody has said much of anything about Asuncion-- I wonder if silence tells me something.
IMO Asunción is not in the list of top places to see in South America. It's ok, but there's so many places to see before Asunción.
