If it's any consolation, I had a bunch of stuff like this happen a couple of years ago and went back and did a multi-year accounting, which I still do once a year or so. All the cancelations have always worked out, even when I was sure they had not refunded. Like folks said, it just doesn't show up how you would expect. Not saying you didn't get hosed, just a data point.
