At the moment Franschhoek is surrounded and threatened by raging wildfires. Over 6,000 hectares have already gone up in flames.
That's a bit ironic, because Franschoek is statistically the second wettest place in South Africa, with a mean annual rainfall of just under 2,000 mm (almost 79").
