I'm guessing you are based out of the US? In which case, I'd recommend signing up for United's MilagePlus program since United is a partner of Air Canada and you can earn United points when flying with them and access your United benefits (if you fly enough) with Air Canada. You'll earn 700 miles on this flight which can be redeemed for award flights (award flights on United start at 8,000 miles) and approximately 900 miles towards elite status (the lowest rung of elite status 25,000 miles).
