A while back, a colleague booked several rooms for our company on his credit card in order to get our points for the night. It was at the Marriott Magnificent Mile in Chicago. The room was in my name, but he put his MR# on the reservation. I didn't really like the guy anyway. So when I checked in, I just gave the front desk my MR#. I got the points and elite credit for the room.

So if the room is in your name, then I would recommend giving the front desk your account number. Worked for me and my coworkers. I wasn't the only one who made that change when checking in.

The question is whether it's worth it or not. If the person who booked the room is someone whom you don't want to annoy, then don't make a big deal out of it. If it was one trip, and my boss did that to get extra points, then I might not press the issue. If you don't care about that, then go for it!
