Tried it, without success. Because LH flights are part of my ticket, agent (and supervisor he spoke with) said that all they can do is put me on UA metal all the way to MXP, but the hours/routing of the single option from SHD are horrible... They said if/when cancellation happens it is easy to book whatever I want.
