You can be done w/ the SM in 2 to 3 min and it will take care of your requests in the next 24 to 48 hours.
With chat you have to sit by your computer, wait for the chat rep to show up, do the back and forth typing (there was also a time the chat box did not work well and one had to hold down the shift key and type one letter at a time). Chat takes 5 times or more time to get the same thing done due to the interaction part alone.
24 to 48 hours seems overly ambitious (more like about 10 days?) but that's still better than having to waste a bunch of time on chat. If I request a match, I don't really care if they process it today or next week or the following week, as long as I get my miles.
My biggest complaint about chat is that it's not 24/7. SM is on my schedule, not theirs.
