At the Westin I used my Suite nights so I got a decent upgrade with easy access to the pool, the downside was I didn't have an ocean view. It was my oldest son's birthday when I was there, and they brought him cake and sang happy birthday, beyond that there was no special treatment.

At the Ritz the service was SIGNIFICANTLY better. We didn't bring our kids, but others did and some observations I had were for the breakfast buffet the staff actually carried the children's plates so the parents could get their meals at the same time. By the pool they had kid sized chairs, and swim diapers, and just in general a staff member wouldn't walk by you without greeting you. Hell, we went there for Dinner one night with the kids while we were staying at the Westin, and the Ritz was under construction so one of their staff members escorted us to the restaurant since we couldn't figure out how to get there. The service is just phenomenal - I can't say enough good things.

Actually one other anecdote, the first time we went we didn't plan on staying at the Ritz, we were supposed to stay at the Westin but when we got there we found it was under construction. Fortunately it was just after the Marriott merger, so I called Ritz customer service, and they actually helped three-way call SPG get that reservation cancelled, our points refunded, transferred over to the Marriott side, and the room at the Ritz booked. I was only Gold and we still got upgraded to the Ocean view tower. Being on the phone wasn't how I wanted to spend the first hour of my vacation, but they made it much less painful than it could have been.

We likely would have stayed at the Ritz the second time if it wasn't under construction, and we weren't paying for my in-laws room as well (the Westin was a bit cheaper as far as points go, and we wanted the suite upgrade which wasn't available at the Ritz yet)
