From personal experience at HR Maui, the room did go back into circulation within a few minutes of canceling. It's certainly not guaranteed to work that way, but hopefully it's a helpful data point.

(Essentially I knew I was going to earn Globalist + TSU, so I booked a suite on a refundable rate, then after I earned TSU I canceled my suite reservation and then applied TSU to my existing points reservation).
