I got the same thing today for a flight on Wednesday. I lost an exit row premium but retained the seat, when I logged in I moved it to an aisle premium seat closer to the front AND got the $25. Later today I figured out I can’t travel on Wednesday so cancelled the flight, which cost me $59 to book in the first place, and free to cancel (Gold) and I got to keep the $25. Seems crazy but I don’t write the rules.
