I would book the outbound in DL1 for the two of you as one way using miles. Then pay for the return in cash or if you have leftover miles. You can’t combine the two but you might be able to come up with enough miles for one of you in C+ on the return. I would take the train from Vienna to Düsseldorf if time permits.
