No need to bring it to AA's attention as it programmed that way for a reason.

Auto-rebooking assures that the passenger at least has something held. AA, just like most carriers, will do a second change without fee at the customer's request. But, plain and simple, it is unlikely that AA will override a hold on the last 2 F seats for a long-haul flight for a Gold. A paid F passenger changing to or otherwise misconnecting, followed by a CK, is AA's priority. Has to be both from an immediate revenue and a long-term strategy.

I would nonetheless have asked for a supervisor, asked for an override. Not easy, but when you ask for help, you sometimes get it.
