If that was quite close to landing then one can understand that since the bars have to sealed and paperwork completed. Soft drinks should still be available, and in any case there is usually one bar that will be done later on. But if this was (say) 2 hours from landing then that should not have happened (though there is sometimes an early sit down on that route due to turbulence over the Andes).
