I totally understand the OP, being a Diamond.

But, at the same time, the original ticket was a coach ticket, so still getting a coach ticket is not all bad.

But - upgrading others does not make sense.

Maybe the automated swap just went haywire.

Or maybe, the color of your luggage was wrong. You know... the new color by numbers Delta boarding system.
