Mostly this works, but once in a blue moon the Computer Says No. So always have your plan B ready, which could be to the left luggage shop in Arrivals, get a friend to help, or use the boot of your car if it is parked nearby. I guess it's more likely to be the first of these options, in which case you need to time your arrival into LHR with that in mind.

In the event that I cannot check in my luggage for LHR-BOM before my LHR-INV flight, I'm happy to keep it at left luggage on arrivals.
Can I then arrive from INV, take the exit, pick up luggage and then check it in for the LHR-BOM leg? Is it allowed even though my ticket is INV-LHR-BOM?
This is the opposite situation of a short check luggage I think...
