JR Hokkaido has announced that onboard snack/drink sales by wagon on Limited Express Super Hokuto (Sapporo - Hakodate) will end on Feb. 28. After Feb. 28 there will be no wagon snack/drink sales on any of JR Hokkaido trains. According to JR Hokkaido sales of onboard snack/drink has peaked at 2001 and on 2017 onboard sales fell to quarter of 2001. JR Hokkaido sites one of reason as expansion of convenience stores at train stations.
JR Kyushu has announced that onboard snack/drink sales by wagon on Kyushu Shinkansen (Hakata - Kagoshima Chuo) will terminate on March 15. JR Kyushu said onboard sales on Kyushu Shinkansen fell to 30% of the peak period. Same time JR Kyushu will terminate Oshibori and candy service on Kyushu Shinkansen Green Car. JR Kyushu has several tourist trains such as Yufuin no Mori, and those tourist trains will continue to have attendants and sales onboard.
I bit sad, but always so many better meal boxes and other snacks at the stations that I seldom buy any food on train.
