Separate from that issue, many airlines sell flights with true lie flat seats..considering many have paid a lot of money to park themselves in those seats, it's not surprising that many choose to sleep during a significant portion of the flight.
Just E+ flew on a 777 with the lie flat F section nearly completely dark on a late afternoon flight. I wanted to get some sleep (didn't have eye shade/mask) and no one closed the shades. Felt kind of envious of those in the lie flats to say the least.
