Free weekend and 4K to gold, suggestions?

Hi there,
this is my "Road to gold" situation:
* 2 A3 flights to clear
* 4k miles more

I'm based in FCO, I'd like to get this job done in a March weekend.
Any great ideas for this mileage run?
I am thinking about this combination:

x and y may be the same but they do not necessarily have to be A3 but they must be *A in a class redeemable with A3 M&B.
FCO - ATH - FCO is 1000 miles, I need 3k more.

I have an upgrade coupon to use, I could use it on a longer flight somewhere in Europe.

Question: why the A3 flight search is not proposing me flights with layover like e.g., in ATH? This is really limiting IMHO.
