Just some Mercure hotels in North Italy / Austria / Bavaria (ie, the region - I don't like to compare chains world-wide.. for example the average Hilton in China let look a good Hilton in the US like a dumpster place..)

The Mercure here certainly isn't in the upper half of Mercure hotels world wide - but making an article about an outdates Mercure? I've had have at least 10 Accor group properties (of which around 3 or 4 Mercures) I've stayed in the last 10 years that were definitely worse than this one - but which were still mostly OK to stay. I'm still missing the point what exactly is SO bad to warrant this thread.
I just got back from Bergamo and stayed at the BGU Hotel Mercure. I thought it was quite nice. Very nice room, even though it is painted blue, Nice view, nice amenities, nice breakfast area and nice staff. I did a review on TA and I believe I gave it 4*. Hotels are in the eye of the beholder, some demand much more, others just enjoy what they have, guess I am one of them.
