But only in 5,000 mile/$50 increments, and only applied evenly across all tickets in the PNR.

So, if you were buying tickets for 3 people, and had 14,999 SkyMiles in your account, you would not be able to use PWM at all. 15,000 miles would take $50 off of each of the 3 tickets, but there is no option to apply $150 to one ticket and leave the others at full price - or spread the discount around in any other way.
