Welcome to FlyerTalk, HillBilly3 from a relative newbie. I travel with DEET all the time and have used it in Africa and many other countries for decades. Having tried other formulas, it is the only one I trust. Local solutions in Africa are often useless. On the plane I travel with DEET wipes or the liquid. Sprays are put in the hold. Never have I had an issue with this.

One other precaution that helps me is taking antihistamines a week before departure. Obviously, checked with my doctor first - even with over the counter medication. Topical antihistamines are not as useful, for me. Have a great trip.
