My Grandfather passed away and I used his Travel Funds that my Grandmother gave to me and all I did was mention his confirmation # and they booked the ticket in my name and I paid the rest with my credit card. This was in 2009. Now the polices may be different. But if you know you are flying Southwest within one year you could use the funds for another trip.
