All of the rules were enforced - they are just different rules to what you're used to.
Australia does not enforce LAG (liquid, aerosol, gel) restrictions for domestic flights. You are allowed take as much shampoo on the flight as you want! There are rules around aerosols, but only to the extent that they must have a cap or other locking device so that they don't release in flight.
Now crochet needles and nail files, that's a different story!! (OK, so it's actually not - both of those are allow too, although there was a period of several years when they were not!)
