Your choice, but you do realise that the train from Manchester to London takes two hours. Driving will take twice as long - or worse. Congestion all the way will be miserable - think of an endless rush hour I405 experience.
Train tickets can be little as £20 each way if you book ahead.
I know, I've done it that way before and it was bliss. Had my parents pick me up at Manchester Piccadilly. However, I only had a backpack to deal with and left my slightly infirm missus in London with her daughter and grandchildren.
Don't forget to add the 45 minutes to a hour to get into London though, So you're actually up to 3 hours/3.25 hours by the time you're all done, and that's only IF your timing is just so.
