I've had good upgrade luck at the Westin Chicago River North as a SPG platinum. Got upgraded to the presidential suite last summer for a three night stay and a suite upgrade the last two times before that over a couple of years. Of course, all these were under the SPG umbrella so who knows now that Marriott has swallowed the property....
