That lack of flexibility is a major drawback.
I've recently been denied an SPG card (never had one before), and my credit score is well over 800, so that option for earning M&M miles is off the table, at least for now.
I may have to learn MS and travel to another state to earn the remaining 20k miles for the award (MS not doable in NY).
