While somewhat unethical, just don't say anything to the gate agent. Have them scan the boarding pass of the D1 seat and not the coach seat. Same sex passenger, should get away with it. Of course, the boarding pass that wasnt scanned, the coach seat, will be marked a no-show but that person won't get the miles/mqm/mqd.
