There used to be a couple of ways
Slots - syndicate on wheel of fortune when pot got big
Roulette - Getting a bad croupier who spins the wheel in the same direction at the same speed and releases the ball with the same weight.

And of course LUCK. If you don't gamble all the time there's a significant chance you can come away with more than you started with. Although the casinos are extremely clever in minimising the chance of this in subtle ways.

There's a big difference from having a bit of a flutter as part of a fun vacation and being a problem gambler.
If you pay £400/night for a room presumably you won't baulk at losing $1000 for a bit of fun. Just as you might pay a similar amount for boxing tickets.
