It sounds like some people believe the affected travellers might be complaining publicly. This account was from a detached observer, not from one of those unlucky to have missed their flight. "It's winter and it's cold" are frankly pathetic excuses for the effect these unprecedented (since last winter) -15ish temperatures have inflicted upon an operation so clearly unprepared for winter.
We all can. But then again, none of us can if flights are full of thousands of other travellers all trying to do the same. Mind you, given the stated loads on AC yesterday (sub-75%), there may well have been some solutions using alternate flights and/or airlines, had a smidgeon of creativity and foresight been engaged. Successful companies have contingency plans ready to go before they're needed; this wasn't Day One of the delays created by the recent weather.
Loads were lower because smart people just cancelled there trips. People that don't get it, well they post on FT or call CBC.
