The shuttle between terminals at SO is ok, but slow. Don't bother going all the way out to the airtrain. If you wanted to go outside security the UA terminal is right next to the Int. terminal, so walking is quicker than the airtrain. I'm doing a SNA-SFO-HKG this week, with only 1 hour to get to the international terminal in SFO. Besides the weather concerns in SFO, I find that almost as frequently causing delays is late ARRIVING aircraft. From SAN to either LAX or SFO can be a crapshoot depending on where your plane will be arriving at SAN from.
