Your non-changeable/non refundable ticket would probably not have qualified for miles or points in any case. In the UK BA only award miles and points on full-fare (Y,S,C,J,D,F,A) tickets. I assume it is the same for the US scheme.

I don't know of any airline scheme that would allow you to claim the points. Most state the miles are award for miles flown, not tickets purchased.
