I am afraid what you were told is rubbish - if it were true hundreds of people would be declined at that checkpoint on a daily basis. Conformance at that bp check is not more that 35 minutes. If your bp failed when presenting yourself at that bp check at more than 35 minutes before scheduled departure time it sounds like something else was going on - perhaps a document check was required (although that should have been cleared at the domestic outstation) or a seat change?
In any case I am surprised that BA customer service point to the left was unmanned, it usually is to deal with issues like this. It sounds like rather than a need for escorting and SS, you just needed a normal BA agent at that customer service point to clear the issue in FLY. Did you really stand there waiting for an hour btw?
