Thanks for the info re the airport MRT. Never bothered getting an EasyCard on previous visits... maybe it's about time.
I have never tried it but I think it is OK - there are discount carriers which fly out very early morning and the airport operates 24 hours.

If you visit Taiwan regularly, an EasyCard (or equivalent) is a must. You get 20% off on the Taipei Metro's single fares and you can use it at many places. The NT$100 fee is NOT refundable but the cards are good for a long time.
