I don't think there is much I can add here about the hotel itself, but I have stayed in that hotel many times as well as at the nearby Doubletree (haven't tried the Hyatt yet) and I would definitely recommend it if you are a) looking for a cheap alternative to Manhattan or b) looking for something reasonably close to EWR yet not in a disgusting area. The Newport community has made a lot of progress in the last 5 years and there are now many decent restaurants and things to do. It's easy to get to Hoboken (or into the city) if you are looking for more variety or nightlife (which is pretty weak in Newport). The CY Marriott is right in the middle of it: walking distance to the light rail (above ground train that goes to Hoboken and other places), restaurants, waterfront (including ferries to Manhattan), and the mall (which is not as "nice" as the rest of the town, but does have a movie theater).
You will probably pay $10 or so to park in the CY garage or you can try your luck on the street. If you take the PATH train into the city, just be aware that it runs a lot less often at night (after 10pm), and in fact at a certain hour which I think is 10:45 or 11:15pm, they stop running separate trains to JC and Hoboken and run one single route that stops first in Hoboken (and therefore takes a lot longer!) So check your watch and get a PATH schedule.
Let me know if you have any questions about the CY or the Doubletree or Newport in general - I spend a lot of time there.
