Planning an Australia trip in January/February with my parents, I am looking for a nice 5* resort on the east coast (Hayman, Lizard or Orpheus are high on my list). But as they cannot stand high humidity and rain all day Great Barrier Reef resorts are a no-go zone at that time I guess. Anyone with advice on a nice (maybe boutique-style) 5* beach property between Sydney and Brisbane (or elsewhere in AUS with good climate) ? Maybe Palazzo Versace or is this area kind of "Daytona Beach" atmosphere ?
I haven't been to Daytona Beach, but Surfers is very plastic fantasic tacky tourist destination. Palazzo Versace is reeally nice though. And it's not near the main party street of Surfers Paradise.

I know there are some boutique-style properties around Byron Bay, but I can't give you any specific information. January/February will be really hot up on the reef, but around Gold Coast will be as well though. Lots of things to do around the Gold Coast though.
