From the 1950s until the 80s, when McDonalds took real dominance, Wimpy’s was where Brits went for hamburgers. They cooked your onion back then. And when Wimpy’s tried to take on McDonalds, where an order was produced at lightning speed in comparison, they ditched the cooked onions for similar raw prepared onions from a canister.
And that was it for Wimpy’s as a high street stalwart.
